女優グリニス・ジョンズの父で、彼女と共に『ハーフウェイ・ハウス』（1944年）や『サンダウナーズ』（1960年）に出演した。がっしりとした、慈悲深い印象のウェールズのキャラクターで、第二次世界大戦中に英国映画の意外なスターとなり、その後すぐに戦後のサポート役へと移行した。彼の愛情深く記憶されている役の一つは、アルステア・シムの冷酷な「エベネザー・スクルージ」に対するおどおどした「ボブ・クラチット」で、映画『クリスマス・キャロル』（1951年）の決定版でのことだった。
