マリア・トルトゥーガは1949年9月14日にワシントン州シアトルで生まれました。彼女の母はアメリカ合衆国で最初のメキシコ民俗舞踊団のメンバーでした。マリアは3人の兄弟と共に育ちました。高校を卒業した後、トルトゥーガはカリフォルニアに移り、コンセプチュアルアートへの興味を追求しました。マリアはロサンゼルスの非営利アート教育センター「ウーマンズ・ビルディング」でフェミニストアーティストのジュディ・シカゴに学びました。また、トルトゥーガは1970年代後半に著名なパフォーマーのロベルト・アマラルと共にスペイン舞踊とフラメンコダンスを学び、レイアリーナ・フォークロリック・アンサンブルでフラメンコのソリス...
