イタリアン・ホラーの巨匠。映画プロデューサーの父親とカメラマンの母親を持ち、幼少から映画製作に興味を抱く。高校時代から映画雑誌に映画評を投稿し、卒業後はローマの新聞「パエーゼ・セラ」の映画批評を担当。セルジオ・レオーネ監督の「ウエスタン」（69）原案をベルナルド・ベルトルッチと共同執筆して以降、マカロニ・ウエスタンや戦争映画の脚本を執筆する。1969年、「歓びの毒牙」で監督デビューを果たし、「4匹の蝿」（71）や「サスペリア PART2」（76）などのメガホンをとる。ホラー映画「サスペリア」（77）のイタリア国内での大ヒットで名匠としての地位を確立した後、「インフェルノ」（80）でハリウッドに...
