ライオネル・バリモアがルイ・ウォルハイムに俳優としてのスタートを与えた。ウォルハイムはコーネル大学のサブフットボールチームでプレー中に顔をほぼ粉砕され、鼻をきれいに骨折してしまった。その後、コーネル大学の講師としての生活は決して楽ではなかった。彼はワートンスタジオでエキストラとして何度か働いたが、あまり注目を浴びることはなかった。バリモアは彼を一度見ただけで、ウォルハイムの顔が彼の運命であることを理解した。バリモアを通じて、ウォルハイムはニューヨークの演劇界に足を踏み入れることができた。正規の舞台では「ウェルカム・ウィング」や「ヘアリー・エイプ」で大成功を収め、これらの作品を「何のための栄光」...
