経歴・プロフィール
ガイラーはチェシャー州ウィラル半島のワラシーで生まれ、父親が宝石商をしていたリバプールのメルセイ川の反対側で育ちました。彼はリバプールカレッジに通い、当初は教会でのキャリアを計画していました。第二次世界大戦中、彼は召集されてRAF警察に入隊しましたが、後にサービスから無効となり、その後、エンターテインメンツ国民サービス協会（ENSA）に参加し、1942年5月4日にはマンチェスターのBBCドラマおよびレパートリー会社に加わりました。
