元サーカスのピエロから食料品店主、清掃婦の息子であるレッド・スケルトンは、7歳の時にエド・ウィンによってインディアナ州ヴィンセンズのバーレスクショーでショービジネスに紹介されました。10歳の時に家を出て中西部を巡る医薬品ショーに参加し、15歳でバーレスクサーキットに加わりました。17歳で、彼のバーレスクパートナーとなり、後に主な作家兼マネージャーとなるエドナ・マリー・スティルウェルと結婚しました。1937年にブロードウェイとラジオでデビューし、1938年に映画デビューを果たしました。彼の元妻でありマネージャーは、1951年に彼のために7年間のハリウッド契約を交渉し、同年に『レッド・スケルトン・...
