カンディダ・ロイヤル（本名：カンディス・ヴァンダラ）はニューヨーク市で育ち、ダンスと音楽の訓練を受けた後、1974年にアダルト映画業界に入った。カンディダは約25本のゴールデンエイジ映画に出演し、1984年に演技から引退した。その後、彼女は自らのスタジオ「フェム・プロダクションズ」を設立した初の女性となり、最初期の女性監督の一人でもあった。晩年、彼女は私立探偵の助けを借りて、18ヶ月で彼女を捨てた実母を追跡することに成功したが、すでに卵巣癌で亡くなっていた。しばらくして、ロイヤル自身も卵巣癌と診断され、2015年9月7日にその病に倒れた。
