経歴・プロフィール
米テキサス州オースティン出身。劇場経営者の両親のもとに育ち、大学卒業後は大学講師とドキュメンタリーカメラマンの仕事を掛け持ちする。1969年「Eggshells」で長編映画監督デビュー。ウィスコンシン州で起きた実際の殺人事件をもとに大学の同僚や学生たちと制作した「悪魔のいけにえ」（74）でホラー映画界に衝撃を与え、カンヌ国際映画祭の監督週間にも出品される。 続く監督作「悪魔の沼」（76）はハリウッド資本で制作され、80年代にはスティーブン・キング原作の「死霊伝説」（80）、「ファンハウス 惨劇の館」（81）、スティーブン・スピルバーグ製作・原案・脚本のヒット作「ポルターガイスト」（82）、「...
